A dead battery and a failing alternator can look alike at first. If the car started fine, ran for a while on I-93 or the Fellsway, then lost power or showed a battery light, the alternator is the more likely cause. Put a new battery in a car with a bad alternator and you'll be dead again within days. When we arrive, we test the battery and the charging output before deciding anything.
If the battery is the problem, we replace it where the car is parked, in a driveway, a lot, or a legal on-street spot with room to work. If it's the alternator, that repair is done at our Wilmington shop, about 20 minutes away. The old battery goes with us for recycling.
