Tire Sales & Installation in Wilmington, MA

From everyday all-seasons to performance and EV-specific tires — mounted, balanced, and set up properly.

Tires are the only thing between your vehicle and the road, which is why we take them seriously. BFS Auto Services carries leading tire brands and offers full mount, balance, rotation, and TPMS service for drivers across the Wilmington area.

We'll help you pick the right tire for your vehicle, your driving style, and the New England climate — no upsells you don't need.

Winter, All-Season, and EV Tires

Heavier EVs and high-torque trucks chew through the wrong tire quickly. We match load rating, speed rating, and tread compound to how the vehicle is actually used — and we'll tell you honestly when your current set still has life left.

Frequently Asked

When should I replace my tires?+

When tread reaches 4/32" — sooner if you regularly drive in rain or snow. We also flag sidewall cracking, uneven wear, or impact damage during any service.

How do I tell how old my tires are?+

Look for the four-digit DOT date code on the sidewall — the first two digits are the week, the last two the year, so "2223" means the 22nd week of 2023. Rubber hardens with age regardless of tread depth, which matters a lot on low-mileage cars in New England.

Can a punctured tire be repaired instead of replaced?+

It depends on where the puncture is. A clean tread-area puncture can usually be patched from the inside; damage in the shoulder or sidewall, or a tire that ran flat, can't be safely repaired. We'll dismount it and look before telling you either way.

How do I check tread depth at home?+

Slot a quarter into the tread groove with Washington's head down — if the tread doesn't reach the top of his head you're around 4/32" and it's time to shop. Check the inner and outer edges as well as the middle, because uneven wear tells you something else is wrong before the tire is even worn out.

How often should tires be rotated?+

Roughly every 5,000 to 7,500 miles for most vehicles, which lines up conveniently with an oil service. Rotation evens out the different wear rates front to rear and is the cheapest way to get the full life out of a set.

Are winter tires worth it in New England, or are all-seasons enough?+

All-seasons are a compromise that works for a lot of drivers here, but their rubber stiffens below about 45°F, so grip drops even on dry pavement. If you commute on unplowed back roads, park on a hill, or drive early before the plows are through, a dedicated winter set is a real safety difference — not just a snow-traction one.

My TPMS light is on but the tires look fine. What now?+

Cold weather alone can drop pressure enough to trigger it, so start by setting all four to the pressure on the driver's door placard, not the number on the sidewall. If it comes back, it's usually a slow leak or a failed sensor — the batteries in TPMS sensors are sealed and die after several years. We can read the sensors and tell you which it is.

Do I need an alignment or a balance?+

Balance fixes vibration that appears at a particular speed and comes from weight distribution in the wheel and tire. Alignment fixes pulling, off-center steering and tires wearing on one edge, and comes from suspension angles. A pothole can knock out either, so if you're unsure we'll check both rather than guess.

Why do EV tires seem to wear out faster?+

EVs are heavier and deliver torque instantly, which is hard on tread — especially on the drive axle. They also often use specific load ratings and low-rolling-resistance or noise-damped constructions, and fitting an ordinary tire in that size can hurt range and ride. We match the spec rather than just the size.

Can I replace just one or two tires?+

You can, but the pair has to go on the same axle and the new tires should go on the rear for stability. On all-wheel-drive vehicles, a significant tread-depth difference between axles can strain the drivetrain, so many manufacturers require replacing all four or shaving to match. Tell us what you're driving and we'll tell you which rule applies.
