A car that won't start is stuck exactly where it is, which is the whole problem. Towing it to a shop for a battery is slow and costs more than the job. Our mobile service brings the testing equipment and the battery to the car instead: your driveway, the lot at work, or any spot where it's safe to work.
We Test Before We Replace
A dead battery is often a symptom. A weak alternator, a slipping belt, or something drawing power after the car is off will flatten a brand-new battery within weeks. We check the battery, the charging output with the engine running, and the draw with everything shut down. If the battery is fine and something else is the cause, we'll tell you that instead of selling you one.
The Right Battery, Set Up Properly
- Start-stop vehicles need an AGM or EFB battery. A standard flooded battery in its place will fail early.
- Many BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen and some Ford models need the new battery registered to the car so it charges correctly. We do that on site.
- Hybrids and EVs still have a 12-volt battery that runs the electronics, and when it dies the car won't power up. We replace those too.
- We keep the car's memory powered during the swap where the vehicle calls for it, so radio presets and settings survive.
Fleet Habits, Applied to Your Driveway
Boston Fleet Services keeps commercial vehicles running across New England, and dead batteries on cold mornings are a routine part of that work. The same technicians, testing process and parts standards now come to personal vehicles through BFS Auto Services. Call for current pricing.
Frequently Asked
Do you really come to me?+
Yes. Mobile battery service happens wherever the car is: at home, at work, or in a lot where it's safe for us to work. Tell us where the car is when you call.
How do I know it's the battery and not something else?+
Slow cranking, a clicking sound, or dim lights usually point to the battery. A car that cranks normally but won't fire, or a single loud click with full lights, points elsewhere, often the starter. We test before replacing anything, so you don't pay for a battery you didn't need.
Why did my battery die on the first cold morning?+
Cold slows the chemistry inside a battery, so it delivers less power right when a cold engine needs more to turn over. A battery that was already weak will often get through the fall and then fail the first hard freeze. Testing ahead of winter catches most of them.
How long does a car battery last in New England?+
Commonly around three to five years, and less for cars that only make short trips, sit unused for long stretches, or park outside all winter. Age matters, but a load test is the only real way to know where yours stands.
My car has start-stop. Does that change anything?+
Yes. Start-stop systems need an AGM or EFB battery built for constant restarts, and many of those cars also need the new battery registered so the charging system treats it correctly. We fit the right type and handle the registration on site.
Can you replace the 12-volt battery in a hybrid or EV?+
Yes. Hybrids and EVs use a 12-volt battery to power up their electronics, and when it fails the car won't turn on even if the main battery is full. We replace it on site. For Rivian owners, BFS Auto Services is also the only authorized Rivian service shop in Massachusetts.
What happens to my old battery?+
We take it with us for recycling. Lead-acid batteries shouldn't go in the trash, and you don't have to deal with it.
Can you give me a jump start instead?+
We can, but a jump only gets the car running. If the battery is failing it will leave you stuck again, so we test it first and tell you whether a jump is enough.
What do I need to have ready?+
Your keys, the location of the car, and the make, model and year so we bring the right battery. If the car is in a parking garage, mention the level and any height limit.
How much does mobile battery replacement cost?+
It depends on the battery your vehicle needs and whether it requires registration. Call for current pricing and we'll quote it before we come out.
